City of Spokane is seeking a Public Defender Supervisor to oversee the department's administrative functions and direction. This role handles misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors for indigent clients under Spokane Municipal Code.

The incumbent will supervise staff, ensure compliance with state standards, engage with city officials, judges, and agencies, and support advocacy for justice and equity.

Competenze

• Juris Doctor or equivalent legal education.
• Active WA State Bar membership in good standing.
• Completion of WSBA Law Clerk Program.
• Experience in criminal defense is preferred.

Mansioni

• Provide oversight for all employment-related matters within the department.
• Prepare and administer departmental budget.
• Prepare and administer departmental grant applications and requirements.
• Maintain the integrity of representation of indigent clients in the courts.
• Represent indigent clients’ and defenders’ interests on various law and law-related boards and committees.
• Handle inquiries from City Administration, City Council, judges, agencies, and the media.
• Assign, track, and review caseloads of staff with attention to compliance with state-wide standards.
• Perform related duties as required.
