Job summary

The Georgia Public Defender Council is seeking an Assistant Public Defender 1 for Barrow County. The attorney will provide zealous representation to indigent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings in Superior Court, from arraignments to sentencing and appeals.

Requirements include a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and a current Georgia Bar license. Strong research, negotiation, and courtroom skills are essential to advocate effectively for clients.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
• Active license to practice law in the State of Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Attend scheduled court appearances and represent indigent clients in all stages of criminal proceedings.
• Prepare and argue motions; conduct jury selection and present evidence.
• Review discovery; interview clients and witnesses; coordinate with prosecutors, judges, and experts.
