Job summary

The State of Minnesota Board of Public Defense is seeking part-time attorneys to provide high-quality legal services to indigent defendants in district court and to juveniles in delinquency cases.

Responsibilities include case preparation, client interviews, legal research, drafting briefs, and courtroom representation. Applicants must be admitted to the Minnesota Bar; part-time status allows maintaining private practice while serving in public defense.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college of law and admission to the Bar of Minnesota.
• Bar admission or eligibility under the Supreme Court Student Practice Rule.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cases for indigent defendants in district court.
• Interview clients and witnesses; draft briefs, motions and other papers.
• Conduct legal research and analysis of evidence and procedures.
• Represent misdemeanor, felony, or juvenile clients in court proceedings.
• Coordinate with prosecutors, judges, and social workers on defense strategy.
