Eagle River Water & Sanitation District (ERWSD) seeks an experienced Government and Public Relations Manager to lead communications, community outreach, and emergency planning in the Vail Valley. As Public Information Officer, you will shape messaging, oversee branding and media relations, manage digital content, and advise leadership on government relations and board communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, or related field.
• Seven or more years of strategic communications, public relations, journalism, public information, media, or related field.
• Five or more years of leadership experience with supervisory responsibility.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills for executive, public, digital, and media audiences.
• Experience advising executives on communications strategy, messaging, and sensitive issues.
• Strong ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging communications.
• Experience developing messaging, storytelling, and integrated campaigns.
• Experience managing social media, digital communications, websites, and content strategy.
• Experience in media relations, crisis communications, and public information.
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with executives, officials, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Serve as strategic communications advisor to CEO and leadership.
• Develop and lead ERWSD's communications strategy and brand voice.
• Lead writing and editing for executive communications, press, newsletters, and web content.
• Advise on communications for major decisions and issues.
• Translate technical and regulatory information into accessible messages.
• Support grant program development and compliance.
• Develop messaging for district initiatives and rate changes.
• Lead digital and social media strategy and measurement.
• Serve as Public Information Officer and media spokesperson.
• Lead emergency and crisis communications.
• Lead public outreach and community engagement.
• Oversee brand standards and public-facing materials.
• Support Board communications and materials.
• Coordinate Board meeting communication processes.
• Build relationships with municipalities, officials, partners, and media.
• Collaborate with teams to identify communication needs early.
