Job summary

Mercy’s Physical Therapist Assistant role supports the Physical Therapist in delivering patient-centered physical therapy. The incumbent performs delegated procedures, documents progress, and helps adjust treatments as patient status evolves under supervision.

Emphasis on safety, age-specific care, and respectful interaction with patients and families. The PTA collaborates with the department, coordinates workload, and provides guidance to the PT aide to maintain smooth operations in a busy

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required.
• Current license in state of practice or valid temporary permit/license.
• Health Care Provider Basic Life Support Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Physical Therapist in delivering physical therapy and perform delegated procedures.
• Modify treatment procedures as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist when patient status changes.
• Document patient progress notes and ensure safety in all procedures.
• Coordinate workload in the department and provide direction to the PT aide as directed.
• Address age-specific needs and treat patients with respect and dignity.

The Physical Therapist Assistant assists the Physical Therapist in the provision of physical therapy. The incumbent shall perform physical therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant may modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status within the scope of the Physical Therapist's established treatment plan. The incumbent documents patient progress notes. The incumbent shall safety and effectively provide physical therapy procedures as directed by their supervising Physical Therapist. The incumbent shall address appropriately the age-specific needs for all patients. The incumbent will treat patients and families with respect and dignity. Patients pain will be assessed and treated according to the departments pain management policy. It is the philosophy of Mercy Hospital to optimize patients' comfort while they are in the hospital. The incumbent will identify and report any patient safety issue when identified. The Physical Therapist Assistant shall provide technical assistance and direction to the Physical Therapy aide and coordinates the workload in the department as directed.

Position Details:

Education: Associate's degree.

Licensure: Currently licensed in the state of practice or holding a state-authorized temporary permit/license, where applicable.

Experience: Physical Therapist Assistant may be entry-level.
Certifications: Health Care Provider Basic Life Support Certification.
