Job summary

Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ is seeking a part-time Nursing Lab Assistant to support students in the nursing laboratory, guide practice, and assist staff with lab tasks.

You will evaluate student competency during skills demonstrations, maintain lab safety and equipment, and help with set ups for demonstrations and simulations. A BSN is required and AZ RN licensure; MS in Nursing is preferred.

• Minimum 3 years RN direct patient care experience.

Job description

Summary of Function:

Assist students in the nursing lab in practicing skills. Evaluate student competency related to skills demonstration. Assist nursing staff and faculty with lab-related tasks.

Typical Duties:

• Serves Students. Guides and supervises the practice of students in the nursing laboratory setting, utilizing the course material provided by nursing faculty and/or the nursing lab coordinator.
  
• Assesses the ability of students to perform assigned skills. Communicates with faculty to meet student needs, providing feedback regarding the progress or status of individual students.
  
• Maintains safety and organization of the nursing laboratory, including the proper functioning of equipment, accurate inventory of medical supplies, and reordering through the nursing laboratory coordinator as needed.
  
• Assists nursing faculty and staff with set up for student skill demonstrations or classroom/lab/simulation.
  
• Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
  

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  
• 3 years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care
  
• Current, active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Arizona, or current, active, unencumbered compact/multistate RN license with privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in Arizona
  
• Applicants may indicate preferred qualifications in application materials: o Master of Science in Nursing o Experience evaluating nursing students in skills lab or clinical setting

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

• Registered Nurse license must remain in good standing with the Arizona State Board of Nursing throughout employment
  
• Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent

Position Type & Work Schedule:

• 9-month Academic Schedule

• Up to 19 hours per week
  
• Monday – Thursday, may include some Fridays, evenings, or weekends
  
• Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

• Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one’s own time
  
• Skill in demonstrating and evaluating clinical and laboratory-based skills
  
• Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
  
• Ability to organize, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail

Travel:

• May be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation, and as needed to support program, department and institutional needs
