Job summary

The Sands College of Performing Arts at Pace University seeks experienced part-time theatrical professionals to serve as Production Associates. You will assist students, staff and faculty with Mainstage productions in lighting, audio/visual, costume, scenery, or related areas.

Hours range from 5 to 20 per week with some weekends/evenings required; BA/BFA in technical theatre and at least 3 years in the field are expected, along with teamwork and safety with PPE and heights.

  • BA or BFA in technical theatre or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of experience in the field.
  • Specialization in at least one area: lighting, audio/visual, costume, scenery, painting, or carpentry.
  • Team player capable of teaching and guiding students.
  • Ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 pounds.

Description

The Sands College of Performing Arts at Pace University is seeking experienced part-time theatrical professionals in all areas of live entertainment to serve as Production Associates. The part-time Associates work during the academic semesters for the Mainstage Production season, assisting Performing Arts students, staff, and faculty with production in one or more of the following areas: lighting, audio and visual media; costume, stitching, and wardrobe; or scenery, painting, and carpentry.

In addition to the department supervisor, Production Associates will also be under the direction of the Director of Production.

Position Duties
  • Assist students, staff, and faculty with the delivery of Mainstage productions.
  • Provide production support in one or more areas of live entertainment, including lighting, audio and visual media; costume, stitching, and wardrobe; or scenery, painting, and carpentry.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Work Hours

Exact hours to be determined with supervisor; can range between 5 – 20 hours per week, depending on the production schedule and needs for each production. Some weekend and evening hours are required.

Requirements
  • BA or BFA in technical theatre or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of experience in the field.
  • Range of technical theater skills and a specialization in at least one of the assigned areas in the description.
  • Team player that requires minimal guidance to accomplish tasks that involve instructing, coaching, demonstrating, supervising, and working alongside students of various experience levels to teach them necessary technical skills.
  • Ability to work at high heights, and on a ladder, genie and catwalk.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds of equipment, up and down stairs in varied lighting condition.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in and with proper personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools.
  • Valid driver’s license, and ability to drive a 14’ box truck and/or cargo van a plus.
