Job summary

Cape Fear Community College in the North Campus (Rocky Point) is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor to deliver theory, simulations, and field training.   • Proficiency in MS Office or Google Workspace.

DEFINITION:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential Functions:
  • Instruction:
    • Deliver high-quality instruction in heavy equipment operation, covering classroom theory, hands-on simulations, and practical application in our outdoor construction lab.
    • Ensure student comprehension of safety procedures, industry regulations, and best practices.
    • Foster a dynamic and engaging learning environment that motivates and inspires students.
    • Effectively communicate complex concepts to learners with diverse skill levels and learning styles.
    • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate individual student needs and learning paces.
    • Adhere to the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum.
  • Industry Engagement:
    • Maintain strong relationships with industry professionals to stay abreast of current industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
    • Participate in industry events and conferences to enhance professional development and network with industry leaders.
  • Student Support:
    • Provide regular and constructive feedback to students on their progress.
    • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, performance, and progress.
    • Communicate effectively with students, supervisors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Program & Facility Management:
    • Monitor and maintain the condition of heavy equipment and ensure its safe and proper operation.
    • Identify and report equipment maintenance needs to the supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Contribute to the development and improvement of the Heavy Equipment Operator program.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment in both the classroom and the outdoor lab.

    • Actively pursue professional development opportunities, such as attending workshops, seminars, and industry conferences.
    • Maintain current certifications and licenses related to heavy equipment operation and instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Essential:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience operating heavy equipment (bulldozer, excavator, dump truck) in a construction or industrial setting.
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory or training role.
    • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
    • In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment safety protocols and industry regulations.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace.
  • Preferred:
    • Prior teaching experience with adult learners.
    • NCCER certification or strong commitment to obtaining certification.
    • Experience with online learning platforms.
    • Relevant certifications in heavy equipment operation or instruction.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum Education/Training:

Additional Information:
  • Part-time position: Up to 25 hours per week.
  • Work Schedule: Daytime hours with flexibility required.
  • Work Locations: North Campus and off-campus construction lab in Rocky Point.
