Job summary

Gadsden School District 32 is seeking a part-time Cook to support the food service program district-wide. The role involves cooking breakfast and lunch items, following recipes to meet nutritional standards, and maintaining a sanitary kitchen. Bilingual is preferred.

The position reports to the Cafeteria Manager and the working calendar is 180 days per year. Responsibilities include cash handling at the point of sale, preparing items for events, and ensuring compliance with health and safety

Qualifications

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Responsibilities

Purpose Statement

The job of Cook is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the food service activities at assigned location with specific responsibilities for cooking food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of Cafeteria Manager; verifying quantities and specifications of orders; and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition. Bilingual preferred. This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: Part Time Cooks support the food preparation process to meet nutritional standards under the direction of Full Time Cook and Manager. This job reports to Cafeteria Manager.

Essential Functions:
  • Attends meetings (e.g. unit meetings, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Cleans kitchen (e.g. ovens, surfaces, pots, pans, staff restroom, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining required sanitary conditions.
  • Cooks breakfast and lunch foods (e.g. prepared, from scratch following recipes, etc.) for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.
  • Estimates food preparation amounts (e.g. follows production records, adjust recipes if required, etc.) for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste.
  • Evaluates prepared foods (e.g. flavor, appearance, temperature, etc.) for the purpose of providing items that will be accepted by students and/or staff. Inspects food items (e.g. temperature, quantity, quality, etc.) for the purpose of meeting preparation requirements and/or complying with mandated health standards.
  • Operates point of sale system (e.g. scan ID, collect cash/ payment tickets, etc.) for the purpose of securing funds for food selection, counting students, and meeting nutritional standards.
  • Prepares food and beverage items (e.g. preschool meals, special events, teacher meetings, etc.) for the purpose of delivering required meals. Records payments for food items from students (e.g. cash, ID scan, payment tickets, etc.) for the purpose of securing funds for food selection.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.
  • Serves required items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
  • Stocks food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
Experience:

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Clearances:

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, IVP (Identity Verified Print) Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Working Calendar Year: 180 Days
Salary: $16/Hr
