Job description

Activity Assistant Job Summary: Activity Assistant assists the Activity Director in the implementation of a quality activity program by motivating others and emphasizing teamwork.

Activity Assistant Requirements:

  • Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Must be able to work varied hours – including nights, weekends, and holidays, when necessary.
  • Must acquire a minimum of ten (10) hours in-service training per year, relating to recreation/activities.

Activity Assistant Duties:

  • Assist residents to, from and with activities to enable maximum participation.
  • Record activity attendance and participation in both group and individual programs.
  • Lead assigned groups and individual activities.
  • Assist to maintain volunteer records.
  • Coordinate arts and crafts program for all levels of residents.
  • Review resident activity care plan and assist in providing activities consistent with the plan.
  • Assist in seasonal and holiday decorating of facility.
  • Provide each resident with a current activity calendar.
  • Assist in maintaining an on-going program for resident birthday recognition.
  • Participate in community outings and special events as requested.
  • Escort residents to outside appointments, as needed.
  • Help stock and monitor resident store, as needed.
  • Report resident incidents and accidents to the nurse immediately. Do not move the resident until a nurse can assess for injury. Supervisory staff may request a written statement regarding any observations of incident.
  • Report personal injuries to the Office Manager, or designee, no matter how minor they may seem.
  • Report any suspected or observed resident abuse to the Administer, or designee, immediately. This includes: resident-to-resident, staff-to-resident and visitor-to-resident.
  • Observe and report needed repairs and service issues, such as broken, defective, or lost equipment and environmental issues.
  • Attend all departmental meetings and/or inservices as required. Responsible for obtaining any information provided at missed meetings/inservices.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Activity Director.
