Job summary

Human Services Association LA seeks a Therapist for the Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention Treatment Program. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), Social Work (MSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) or Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD, PsyD).
  • Minimum two years’ experience providing counseling or mental health services; preferably with families with a history of child abuse, trauma, and underserved populations.
  • Must be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences and be registered as an associate psychotherapist (ACSW/AMFT/APCC).
  • Occasional driving is required; must provide own vehicle and CA Driver’s License.

Position Summary

The Therapist provides mental health and case management services for clients under the Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention Treatment Program. Services include intake, assessment, individual, group, and family therapy, parenting support/education, referrals and linkage services. Services are delivered in the office, in-home, off-site, and telehealth as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments in collaboration with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and other referral sources.
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy services to children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect.
  • Provide crisis intervention to children and families as needed.
  • Provide referrals and linkages to community resources.
  • Participate in clinical training, case reviews and consultations.
  • Adhere to child abuse reporting and legal and ethical standards.
  • Adhere to DCFS documentation standards and requirements.
  • Coordinate & participate in peer review and quality assurance meetings.
  • Maintain client records and prepare reports.
  • Attend department, agency, and community meetings, as assigned.
  • Receive supervision from a licensed therapist, as applicable.
  • Related duties, as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child abuse and other risk factors such as domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health issues, etc.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices and effective modalities of treatment.
  • Ability to follow program and agency policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit competency and independent judgment.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective communication, both oral and written.
  • Ability to meet attendance standards and work additional hours as necessary, including evening hours.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships.
  • Preferred bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), Social Work (MSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) or Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD, PsyD).

Licensing/Certification Requirements
  • Must be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences and be registered as an associate psychotherapist, such as an ACSW, AMFT, or APCC.
  • Occasional driving is required. Must provide your own vehicle, valid California Driver’s License and proof of full insurance coverage.
  • Negative tuberculosis screen (required).
  • We require the selected candidate to undergo a criminal background check using the Live Scan fingerprinting method in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Work in moderate noise levels and non-smoking environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds independently
  • Frequently involves sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, and climbing stairs (as needed)
  • Occasionally may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly to communicate effectively
  • Constantly operates a computer, keyboard, and other various office machinery
  • Majority of job duties are performed onsite; however, visits to different sites may be required
