Psychology Intern

Beaufort County School District STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT - Beaufort, South Carolina

Position Purpose

To function as a member of the total educational team and bring specialized knowledge and skills related to learning processes, techniques of assessment of learning and social adjustment, research design, and modification of behaviors.

Essential Functions
  • Complete the Intern Preparation Program with all competencies attained.
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, parents, and other personnel regarding specific cases in which assistance is requested (RTI, 504, IEP referrals) and attend meetings as required.
  • Produce word‑processed reports within 60 days reflecting the results of measurements to aid in designing Individual Educational Plans for students.
  • Interpret evaluation results and present findings to parents and IEP teams, including recommendations to address referral concerns.
  • Counsel using psychological principles and techniques to improve communications, socialization, adjustment, adaptation, and achievement on a short‑term basis.
  • Utilize learning theory and principles to assist teachers or parents with individual child and/or group behavior management.
  • Attend and conduct in‑service trainings to further knowledge of relevant topics assigned to schools.
  • Communicate with parents regarding programs and services available to meet students’ educational, health behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a timely, efficient, and high‑quality manner.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Special Education, internship supervisor, or their designee.
  • Apply psychological methods, instruments, and techniques for measuring, understanding, and predicting learning and behavior in the school child.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a program of School Psychology, with the expectation of graduating with at least a Master’s degree and the ability to be certified in School Psychology.

  • Communicate effectively in English using proper grammar and vocabulary; American Sign Language or Braille may also be acceptable forms of communication.
  • Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Have regular and punctual attendance.

  • Adhere to confidentiality as directed by Federal, State, and Local Laws/Regulations; violation may result in disciplinary actions up to termination of employment.
