PSYCHOLOGIST I -Juvenile Forensic Evaluator- Statewide

The Department Information and overview describe the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health (OCFMH) within the Colorado Department of Human Services and the responsibilities for policy development, service provision and coordination, program monitoring and evaluation, and administrative oversight of the public behavioral health system. This position performs court-ordered evaluations and restoration reports, may travel within Colorado, and requires a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist by Colorado statute.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Completes the equivalent of 12 court-ordered evaluations for competency or restoration of competency per month.
  • Produces written reports detailing opinions regarding competency, with explanations of barriers to competency when applicable; reports include information and opinions per C.R.S 19-2.5.
  • May be subpoenaed to testify and provide court information regarding opinions.
  • Conducts evaluations in settings such as hospitals, jails, or community locations as specified by court orders.
  • Requests collateral information as needed and seeks consultation with supervisors or colleagues on difficult cases.
  • Develops and delivers expert testimony and professional opinions to courts regarding competency and restoration.
  • Maintains objectivity and neutrality in reporting and testimony, and explains the basis for any clinical and forensic opinions.
  • Tests and discusses assessment processes and instruments used, including collateral sources as needed.
  • Attends annual and ongoing competency training to stay informed of current trends and research in forensic psychology.
  • Participates in case presentations for peer review and quality assurance; may be assigned additional tasks as needed by OCFMH.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners
  • One (1) year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist
  • Licensed Psychologist (Special Qualifications)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training and experience in juvenile evaluation
  • Experience in Forensic Evaluations
  • Experience in evaluating competency to proceed
  • Ability to work independently with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment to meet deadlines
  • Prior State experience
Conditions of Employment
  • Background checks and license verification; valid U.S. driver's license; potential extensive travel between Colorado facilities
  • Pre-Employment Physical and TB Test; age 21 or older

About This Position / Work Arrangement

The current schedule is hybrid (remote work and on-site 2 days per week) with possible changes based on business needs. The selected candidate may be located at the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan or Pueblo.
