Job summary

University of California, Santa Cruz is seeking a licensed Psychologist to support students with complex mental health needs within Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). The role includes direct therapy, crisis work, and collaboration with campus partners to deliver integrated care.

The Clinician will provide brief and extended psychotherapy, triage, intake, and crisis intervention, and may supervise interns. Strong interpersonal and trauma-informed practice required.

Qualifications

Counseling and Psychological Services is seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychologist to provide care and support for the mental health and well being of our diverse student communities experiencing complex mental health struggles.

Job Summary

The Clinician, Complex Mental Health, Doctoral Level reports to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and is assigned duties by the Director as specified herein. The incumbent provides high-quality clinical services, outreach and educational programming, and consultation services, and may supervise and train doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. The Clinician delivers both brief and extended therapy, crisis assessment and intervention, and group support for students in need of intensive, focused, and integrated care.

Appointment Information

Salary: $112,795.69 annually (up to $145,923 annually) commensurate with licensed experience. The budgeted amount is the maximum salary approved. Full benefits eligibility provided.

Schedule Information

Full-time, Fixed. 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, daytime shifts.

Job Duties

75% Direct Service

• Provides brief and long-term counseling and psychotherapy with undergraduate and graduate students, including individuals and couples, with a broad range and complexity of psychological problems and diagnoses.
• Provides triage and intake assessment.
• Provides crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization.
• Provides case management and referral services, including treatment planning to outside referrals for higher level of care.
• Conducts group therapy, psychoeducational groups, and drop-in groups.
• Works collaboratively with CAPS and SHS providers, campus partners, off-campus mental health professionals, and community resources to meet student mental health needs.
• Determines need for other professional interventions and refers as necessary.
• Provides consultation to staff, faculty, administrators, and campus partners regarding the psychological well-being of students.
• Provides backup consultation for After-Hours Crisis Services.

25% Indirect Service

• Participates regularly in CAPS committees and workgroups cooperatively to maintain and upgrade the quality of services.
• Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Promotes a safe and healthy workplace and effectively responds to injuries that occur.

Required Qualifications

• Valid California licensure in Psychology in good standing or valid out-of-state licensure with required California licensure within 180 days.
• Demonstrated clinical experience with brief and long-term therapy models.
• Strong clinical and crisis management skills, including ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs.
• Experience facilitating psychotherapy and psycho-educational groups.
• Multiculturally responsive and trauma-informed clinical services experience.
• Knowledge and ability to deliver psychological services to diverse communities in a university setting.
• Experience with developmental and mental health issues of late adolescence.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; evidence of professional behavior.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in electronic health records and scheduling software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Counseling experience in a college/university setting.
• Doctorate and internship from an APA-accredited program.
• Psychology licensure in California preferred over out-of-state licensure.
• Experience working with underserved and marginalized populations relevant to the UCSC student body.
• Experience with DBT treatment modalities.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Valid California licensure in good standing or out-of-state licensure with required California licensure within 180 days.
• Successful completion of pre-hire criminal history background check and credentialing check.
• Passage of employment misconduct disclosure process.
• Possession of CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 calendar days.
• Completion of required training, including UC compliance training, within established time frames.
• Completion of HIPAA training within 30 days of hire.
• Option to work a hybrid schedule if confirmed; ability to work from home and fulfill telecommuting agreement.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
• Professional appearance and conduct suitable for a professional setting.
• Compliance with current Student Health Center employee health safety requirements for health care workers.
• Compliance with University of California vaccine policy.
