Job summary

Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a licensed psychologist to provide comprehensive evaluations, interventions, and referrals for prisoners, including sex offender treatment and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

You will train staff in psychological matters and ensure continuity of care from intake through discharge, with responsibilities across hospitalization, medical illness, and specialty populations. Master’s in psychology required; Michigan licenses required.

The psychologist provides a full range of psychological evaluations, tests, interventions, consultations and referral services as assigned by the supervisor. The Psychologist will train staff in matters of psychology and mental illness. This position will also function as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team providing a range of psychological services to prisoners within the Michigan Department of Corrections, some who may be diagnosed with severe mental disorders. They provide a full spectrum of sex offender treatment, assessment services and will work with community supervision/treatment for sex offenders. They also work with hospitalized, medically ill and other special populations. The psychologist is responsible for all aspects of the mental health evaluation, referral to the appropriate mental health level of care and treatment of the prisoners, monitoring their progress and ensuring continuity of care is not jeopardized. They also assist with placement and obtaining services when the prisoner discharges to the community.

Education

Possession of a master's degree in psychology.

Experience
  • Psychologist 9 No specific type or amount is required.
  • Psychologist 10 One year of professional experience providing psychological treatment equivalent to a Psychologist 9.
  • Psychologist P11 Two years of professional experience providing psychological treatment equivalent to a Psychologist, including one year equivalent to a Psychologist 10.
Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications

Possession of a temporary master's limited license, master's limited license, doctoral limited license, or full license to practice psychology in Michigan.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
