Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is seeking a Psychiatrist (Relief/PRN) to join a multidisciplinary team serving Harris County. The role emphasizes street-level psychiatric care for individuals experiencing homelessness, in collaboration with homeless services partners.

Hybrid and in-person outpatient responsibilities include supervising residents within the clinic and providing direct clinical care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and Psychiatric Residency Program.
• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
• Texas Medical License is required.
• Boards Eligible or Board Certified in General Psychiatry, and/or Child & Adolescent, and Forensic.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric evaluations and provide clinical leadership.
• Provide medication maintenance for caseload and crisis situations.
• Offer case consultation and prescribe rehabilitative therapies.
• Provide crisis resolution services and appropriate referrals.

We're actively seeking a Psychiatrist (Relief/PRN) who wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families struggling with mental illness. We want psychiatrists who are committed to meeting diverse needs and providing quality mental health care in the community. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills and strong skills in supervising residents for community psychiatry rotations. Ideal candidate will also have a passion for helping underserved individuals, promoting recovery and patient-centeredness. Your role will involve performing psychiatric evaluations and providing clinical leadership. As an outpatient psychiatrist, you'll be part of a compassionate and dedicated team that includes care coordinators, licensed therapists, practice managers, and nurses. We offer hybrid and in-person outpatient positions. Will also involve supervising residents in the clinic and will require an in-person presence in the clinic. Hybrid schedules will be allowed for direct care service only.

Your Role in Action:

• Evaluate individuals and complete all applicable assessments which are required according to State and Program Standards and are deemed appropriate as outlined by the Chief Medical Officer.
• Provide Medication Maintenance to those individuals assigned to the physicians caseload or those deemed necessary to serve during a crisis situation.
• Provide case consultation and prescribe all rehabilitative therapies associated with persons served.
• Provide Crisis Resolution Services and make appropriate recommendations for other crisis services as needed.
• Complete all required documentation necessary to ensure compliance with required Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, THE Harris Center, and organizational standards 100% of the time.
• Prescriptive Authority and provide Supervision of Community Psychiatry Residents, APRN's and PA’s.
• Complete all required training as outlined by The Harris Center and attend designated meetings.
• Perform other related job duties or responsibilities as requested or required, whether or not mentioned in the job description.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:

• Graduation from as Accredited Medical School and Psychiatric Residency Program. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas. Special Courses, Certificates, and Licenses: Texas Medical License.

Other Key Qualifications

• Licensed to Practice Medicine in the State of Texas (Specialty in Psychiatry).
• Boards Eligible or Board Certified in General Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent, and Forensic.
• Experience/Interest in supervising residents in psychiatry strongly preferred.
• Must have and maintain a current controlled Substance Registration certificate from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
• Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Registered

The Psychiatrist will serve as a vital clinical resource within a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering street-level psychiatric, medical, and behavioral health care. Working in close collaboration with Healthcare for the Homeless medical staff and the Coalition for the Homeless, the Psychiatrist will provide direct psychiatric services to individuals experiencing homelessness across Harris County. This is a community-based, relief position focused on expanding access to care and supporting vulnerable populations through a street medicine initiative. This role is central to advancing a street medicine initiative aimed at improving access to care and fostering trust within underserved communities.
