Job summary

Coastal Horizons Center, Inc. seeks a qualified psychiatrist to provide outpatient behavioral health treatment and medication management in our Wilmington, NC clinics. The role includes evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and coordination with a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities include prescribing medications, monitoring patients, and ensuring timely documentation. Collaboration with families and staff is essential, with on-call coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Licensed by the state of North Carolina as an MD or DO.
• Preference for double board certification in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry.
• Active DEA license.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric and substance use treatment services to patients in an outpatient clinic setting during scheduled hours.
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments for individuals referred for services.
• Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans in accordance with federal and state statutes, regulations and protocols.
• Prescribe, recommend, and/or discontinue medications and treatments for mental, emotional, behavioral disorders.
• Provide medication management for patients on medication and intermittent reassessment as needed.
• Counsel patients on medication benefits and risks.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate labs to identify patient health care needs.
• Respond to client emergencies and be on-call when appropriate.
• Collaborate with medical and treatment teams to ensure patient needs are met.
• Complete medical records documentation timely and accurately.
• May refer patients to other medical providers for consultation or specialized care.
• Collaborate with guardians and significant others as clinically appropriate.
• Return calls, emails, and messages promptly.

The psychiatrist provides diagnosis, treatment, medication management, consultation, and follow up behavioral health care to agency patients. The psychiatrist provides age and specialty appropriate care at the level of training achieved.

Basic Qualifications, Certifications, Education, and Experience:

• Licensed by the state of North Carolina as an MD or DO

Position Highlights:

• Provide psychiatric and substance use treatment services to patients in an outpatient clinic setting during scheduled hours.
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments for individuals referred for services.
• Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans in accordance with all federal and state statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
• Prescribe, recommend, and/or discontinue medications and treatments to treat mental, emotional, behavioral disorders in accordance with all state and federal regulations.
• Provide medication management for patients on medication and intermittent reassessment (as needed) for those assessed (but not on medication). Medication provision may include the direct delivery of injectables.
• Counsel patients during appointments on medication benefits and risks.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate labs to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Record findings, and formulate plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition.
• Respond to client emergencies and be accessible to crisis on-call clinicians when appropriate.
• Collaborate with Chief Medical Officer, administrative supervisors, nursing staff, medical assistants, therapist, and other treatment team members to ensure patient needs are met.
• Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records documentation, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
• May refer patients to other medical providers for consultation or specialized care for treatment.
• Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on patient’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
• Return calls, emails, and messages promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary).
• Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines and standards of care for treatment interventions.
• Regularly participate in case staffings with advanced practitioners as well as interdisciplinary treatment team members.
• Actively participate in all agency and department education, training, and in-services.
