The Office of Mental Health at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide complex psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment to clients across BCMHC programs, including telepsychiatry as needed.

The position requires SC medical licensure, psychiatry residency, and board certification; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Work hours total 37.5 per week with no nights or weekends.

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Berkeley Community Mental Health Center, 403 Stony Landing Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.

As the Psychiatrist, under general supervision, you will provide complex psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment services to patients. You will also provide psychiatric medical practice consultation to medical colleagues in the Center.

Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist:
  • Provide psychiatric assessments, diagnostic and treatment services to individuals served in all BCMHC levels of care/programs.
  • Perform medical record management in accordance with BHDD QA/QI standards.
  • Perform evaluations and make treatment recommendation to inmates at Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
  • Provide medical practice consultation to Center treatment team members.
  • Perform duties as Psychiatrist in support of clinical service delivery.
  • Maintain compliance with SC Medical Board Directives for CME Requirements.
  • Adhere to Center, BHDD and State Corporate Compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
Additional Requirements
  • This position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
  • Board certification in psychiatry strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in SC. Completion of required residency in psychiatry and two (2) years' experience in psychiatry and two (2) years direct patient care experience.
Post hire, employee must:
  • Have thorough knowledge of techniques/skills used in examination, diagnosis and treatment of mentally ill persons.
  • Have thorough knowledge of principles, procedures and practices of general psychiatric medicine.
  • Have ability to conduct mental status evaluations and make psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Have ability to establish/maintain satisfactory working relationships with patients, other staff and the general public. This knowledge, skill and ability would be acquired through graduation from an approved school of medicine and completion of four (4) years residency in psychiatry and two (2) years of direct care experience.
  • Be willing to work a total of 37.5 hours per week; no nights, no on-call, and no weekends
  • In addition to providing on-site clinic-based services, must be willing to work up to 12 hours providing telepsychiatry to inmates of a local detention facility.
