Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus is hiring a Psychiatric Technician for the night shift (11p-7a). You will ensure patient safety under RN supervision, performing direct observation and assisting the Behavioral Health Support Team in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications include HS/ GED, 1 year pediatric behavioral health experience, BLS certification, and preferred psychology/sociology degree. Respiratory fit testing may be required as part of safety standards.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience with Behavioral Health in inpatient or outpatient setting required.
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology or related degree preferred.
  • Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct continual observation of patients requiring special precautions to ensure safety.
  • Remain with the assigned patient at all times during their shift.
  • Perform direct observation of the patient and monitor for at‑risk behavior.
  • Monitor for sharps and contraband that can cause harm.
  • Assist the nurse in creating a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Assist in implementing the individualized care plan.
  • Promote healthy coping through verbal support and behavior plan execution.
  • Support patient status communication within the care team.
  • Maintain accountability for personal development.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, flexibility, communication and customer service.

Job Description

We are searching for a Psychiatric Technician for our West Campus— someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will ensure the safety of patients at risk of harm to self or others, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and Behavioral Health Support Team. Care will be delivered incorporating Family Centered Care in a cost-effective manner and is developmental and age-appropriate for the patient population.

Nights 11p-7a (full time only)
