Job summary

Amedisys is seeking a Psychiatric Registered Nurse to provide home-based nursing care across a patient-centered care plan. The role supports behavioral health and medical needs in the patient’s home environment.

You’ll perform evaluations, monitor medications and safety, coordinate care with the care team, supervise aides, and ensure thorough documentation. Nursing experience in psychiatric settings is required.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state(s) you are assigned to work.
• Must have CMS-acceptable psychiatric nursing experience in home health.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial nursing evaluation, including behavioral health/psychiatric needs.
• Observes and evaluates physical and mental status for complications and meds side effects.
• Monitors behaviors signaling crisis or suicidality and reports changes to team.
• Instructs patient/caregiver on care, meds, safety and coping strategies.
• Administers IM meds, draws labs, collects specimens.
• Acts as case manager coordinating care for patients.
• Completes documentation timely and accurately.
• Supervises LPNs and HHAs.
• Communicates patient progress to clinical manager and care team.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial nursing evaluation, including behavioral health/psychiatric nursing needs.

• Observes and evaluates the physical and mental status of the patient for complications and medication side effects.
• Maintains awareness for indicators in patients ' behavior that call for change in the treatment modality (crisis, suicidal ideation) as well as other medical signs and symptoms.
• Instructs patient/caregiver in cognitive and technical aspects of care, medication regimes, disease processes, safety interventions, ADL care, coping skills, symptom management and other interventions.
• Administers IM medications, performs lab draws and specimen collections.
• Acts as a case manager in coordinating care for patients as assigned.
• Completes documentation timely and accurately.
• Supervises LPNs and HHAs.
• Regularly communicate patient progress to the clinical manager, psychiatrist and care team.

Qualifications

• Current RN license, specific to the state(s) you are assigned to work . Must have one of the following to meet CMS requirements for psychiatric nursing in the home care setting:
  • An RN with a m aster's degree in a mental health nursing or psychiatric specialty . M ust have nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
  • An RN with a b achelor's degree in nursing . M ust have one year of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
  • An RN with a d iploma or a ssociate 's degree in nursing . M ust have two years of recent nursing experience in a n acute treatment unit or other p sychiatric setting.

Please note: Experience must have been within the last three to five years. If not, documentation must support psychiatric retraining or classes or CEUs to update psychiatric knowledge.

• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and liability insurance.
