Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Director of Nursing for Psychiatry (Nurse Manager) to lead adult inpatient psychiatry, the child/adolescent unit and the psychiatric ED unit. The role includes clinical leadership, budget oversight, and collaboration with Medical Staff and other departments to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

The position emphasizes mentoring, change management, and engagement with Magnet/Pathways to Excellence programs, while ensuring safety and adherence to standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
• Master's degree in Nursing or health-related field preferred.
• 3-4 years of nursing experience required.
• 1-2 years of management and leadership experience preferred.
• RN license in MD/DC required.
• Specialty certification preferred or must be obtained within two years of hire.
• CPR certification within 90 days required.

Responsibilities

• Creates a professional practice atmosphere and mentoring environment to support governance and staff satisfaction.
• Builds collaborative relationships with the inter-professional health care team and leaders across departments.
• Maintains safe, therapeutic care environments and manages unit budgets and resources.
• Provides clinical leadership and role modeling while supporting Magnet/Pathways initiatives.
• Participates in budgeting, staffing, resource planning and performance improvement.
