Job summary

The Goddard Riverside Community Center’s ACT team in Manhattan is seeking a licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to deliver direct psychiatric care to young adults with Serious Mental Illness, including prescribing medications and evaluating patients.

This part-time role is 24 hours per week with a flexible schedule. NYS NP license and SMI experience are required; Word/Outlook and AWARDS database skills are expected; Driver's license is a plus.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by NYS Education Department.
• Experience working with the seriously and persistently mentally ill population.
• Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric treatment to 48 clients and conduct monthly psychiatric sessions.
• Prescribe medication and complete psychiatric evaluations as needed.
• Communicate with RN, pharmacies and Insurance carriers about client prescriptions.
• Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and trainings; collaborate with ACT team.

Program Description

The Young Adult Assertive Community Treatment Team is a unique and nontraditional licensed outpatient psychiatric clinic for individuals, 18-28 years old with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who have demonstrated a high service need with multiple hospitalizations, emergency room visits and difficulty maintaining stability in the community. ACT is a nationally recognized model and an evidence-based practice. The ACT Team serves all of Manhattan and occasionally the outer boroughs.

Purpose of Position

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering direct and comprehensive psychiatric care for the ACT team clients which includes prescribing medications and completing psychiatric evaluations.

Hourly Rate

$115.00 - $135.00

Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties

• 1.) Psychiatric
  • Provide psychiatric treatment to 48 clients
  • Conduct monthly psychiatric sessions with each client
  • Prescribe medication when appropriate
  • Complete psychiatric evaluations as needed
  • Assess psychiatric and medical status of clients
  • Complete required paperwork following program guidelines
  • Communicate with clients’ families about their needs and progress
  • Serve as liaison to other service providers
  • Visit clients in residential facilities, on the street and in other locations
  • Be available by telephone after hours and on weekends to assist the team with urgent client interventions
  • Interpret Laboratory results
• 2.) Medication management
  • Communicate with RN, Pharmacies and Insurance carriers about client prescriptions
  • Document client medications
• 3.) Participate as an ACT team member
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and training programs to upgrade skills and knowledge
  • Attend supervision meetings to review client progress and case management strategies
  • Work collaboratively with ACT team staff in a team case management model.
• 4.) Other duties as required

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• Licensed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by the NYS Education Department
• Experience working with the seriously and persistently mentally ill population
• Driver’s License preferred

Computer Skills

• Able to work in the Microsoft Office Suite, should especially be proficient in Word and Outlook
• Able to use or learn to use AWARDS database
• Able to use or learn other electronic databases, programs, and funder-related software as needed
