Job summary

Sheppard Pratt is seeking a Float Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to work across our inpatient and day hospital services in Towson, MD, delivering psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning for patients across child, adolescent, and adult populations.

The role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on 6 child/adolescent inpatient units, 2 child day hospitals, 13 adult inpatient units, and 2 adult day hospitals, with a schedule requiring 10 weekends and 2 holidays

Qualifications

  • Active Maryland PMHNP license.
  • MD MD Controlled Substances Registration with DEA.
  • Minimum 3 years of psychiatric NP experience in acute inpatient setting across child, adolescent, and adult populations.

Responsibilities

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations, admission physicals, and diagnostic assessments.
  • Initiate and coordinate individualized treatment plans with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, order tests and adjust treatment as needed.
  • Provide individual and group therapy to support patient progress.
  • Monitor patient outcomes, document care, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence in care.
  • Mentor junior staff and model best practices.

Job description

As a Float Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Sheppard Pratt, this role has the opportunity to work across a diverse continuum of behavioral health services on both campuses, expanding your clinical expertise while making a meaningful impact on patients of all ages.

The Float NP will collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary teams across 6 child and adolescent inpatient units, 2 child and adolescent day hospitals, 13 adult inpatient units, and 2 adult day hospitals, providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning for individuals experiencing acute behavioral health challenges.

This position includes a schedule requirement of working 10 weekends and 2 holidays annually.

What to expect:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides direct psychiatric care through evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including prescribing and managing medications. Patients are treated within the hospital setting, where the nurse practitioner conducts admission assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and provides both individual and group therapies. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the nurse practitioner plays a critical role in supporting stabilization, recovery, and continuity of care.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and coordinate individualized treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, ordering tests and adjusting treatment as needed.
  • Provide individual and group therapy to support patient progress.
  • Monitor patient outcomes, document care accurately, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence in care.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior staff, modeling best practices and supporting professional growth.

What we need from you:
  • Active Maryland Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license.
  • Maryland Controlled Substances Registration with valid DEA Certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner experience in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting required, with experience treating child, adolescent, and adult populations.

The pay range for this position is $135,000 minimum to $185,000 maximum. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, board certifications and years and level of related experience.
