Job summary

SHIELDS FOR FAMILIES in Los Angeles, CA, seeks a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) for a full-time, in-person role. You will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and medication management within a multidisciplinary team serving underserved communities.

Requirements include CA RN and APRN licensure, PMHNP-BC, DEA and CS registration, plus strong clinical assessment and documentation skills. Experience in community mental health is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Must hold CA RN and APRN licensure, PMHNP-BC, DEA, and state controlled substance registration, and current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Preferred qualifications include two or more years of psychiatric care experience in community mental health, nonprofit, outpatient, or integrated behavioral health settings.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology and evidence-based psychiatric treatment; trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care.

Salary: $135,000/annual

Position Overview

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, medication management, and treatment for individuals with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the PMHNP delivers trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and culturally responsive care to support underserved and vulnerable populations.

  • experience serving individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, homelessness, or trauma;
  • and proficiency with electronic health records.
