Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the psychiatric emergency department. You will assess, plan, implement, and supervise patient care in collaboration with PES clinicians, with potential supervision of non-RN staff.

The role requires a CT RN license, BLS, CPI within 6 months of hire, and may float to the inpatient psych unit as needed. BSN is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Proficient with computer software including electronic patient records.
• Able to use internet for literature searches regarding patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the patient's physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
• Develops, communicates and documents a plan of care reflecting individualized patient problems and interventions.
• Implements and coordinates the plan of care with the healthcare team.
• Evaluates effectiveness of the plan of care and readiness for discharge; revise as needed and refer.
• Plans for education after assessing learning needs; documents outcomes.
• Functions as a preceptor to new staff.
• Maintains a safe environment for self and patients.
• Meets Standards of Professional Behavior.
• Performs other duties to ensure smooth operation of the department.
• May float in patient psych unit as needed.
• UNIT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: promotes safety and crisis management.
• DIRECTION OF OTHERS: supervises MHWs, PCAs, and new hires.

Reports to the Manager of the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit or his/her designee. The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual care patients in the psychiatric emergency department according to all current policies and procedures. The RN may provide supervision of non-RN (nursing) personnel i.e. MHW or PCA. The RN may be required to work on the inpatient psychiatric unit as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or requested in order to maintain a high level of service. Works collaboratively with the PES clinicians to achieve optimum outcomes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE

Mental Health , or ED experience preferred. Hospital and unit-based orientation provided

LICENSE
