Job summary
Riverside Medical Group in Virginia seeks an exceptional physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Virginia's first and only dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Department at Riverside Mental Health & Recovery Center.
The Medical Director will provide strategic clinical leadership while maintaining an active clinical practice in a multidisciplinary environment, shaping the future of psychiatric emergency care in southeastern Virginia.
Qualifications
- MD/DO degree required
- Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, or Family Medicine preferred
- Virginia medical license or ability to obtain
- DEA registration required
- Experience in emergency psychiatry or emergency medicine or acute behavioral health preferred
- Previous physician leadership experience valued

Riverside Medical Group is seeking an exceptional physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Virginia's first and only dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Department (PED) at Riverside Mental Health & Recovery Center.
This is an outstanding opportunity to lead one of the Commonwealth's most innovative behavioral health programs while helping shape the future of psychiatric emergency care throughout southeastern Virginia. The Medical Director will provide strategic clinical leadership while maintaining an active clinical practice in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Lead Virginia's only dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Department
- Combine clinical practice with meaningful physician leadership

- Work alongside experienced Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Nursing, and Behavioral Health teams

As Medical Director, you will:
- Provide clinical leadership for Psychiatric Emergency Department operations

The Riverside Mental Health & Recovery Center is home to Virginia's first dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Department, offering specialized emergency psychiatric evaluation, stabilization, and treatment for adolescents and adults experiencing behavioral health crises.

Candidates should possess:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, or Family Medicine (strongly preferred)
- Experience in emergency psychiatry, emergency medicine, or acute behavioral health
- Previous physician leadership experience preferred
- Virginia medical license (or ability to obtain)
- DEA certification
