Job description

Psych ED-LPN position at Genesis Healthcare System. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care delivery for behavioral health patients in the emergency department, coordinating with physicians, psychiatrists, and other caregivers while ensuring compliance with infection control and universal precautions.

Shift & Schedule

• Day shift
• Night shift

• Full time – 72 hours every two weeks
• Part time – 24 hours every two weeks

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Complete initial screenings of patients presenting in the ED for behavioral health services.
• Review clinical information and present it to the ED physician and on‑call psychiatrist to determine appropriate disposition.
• Document assessment and discharge plans in the medical record according to department standards.
• Verify insurance coverage, when applicable.
• Facilitate referrals to other healthcare facilities when appropriate.
• Serve as a resource for physicians, patients, and families.
• Provide compassionate, quality patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
• Take and record measurements or readings.
• Assess condition and provide treatment for patient care in collaboration with the registered nurse.
• Administer prescribed medications.
• Provide leadership to unlicensed staff while working collaboratively with other caregivers.
• Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and ability related to patient care and normal procedures in the Psych Central Management Department within own scope of practice.
• Assist with the orientation process of new staff as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current and unencumbered licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Ohio.
• CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
• Demonstrated competence in age‑specific patient care as documented by the provided checklist.
• Completion of Aggression Management System training within six months of employment.
• Ability to read, write, and explain moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others.
• Ability to read, calculate, and prepare medication and observe resulting reactions applying clinical knowledge.
• Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities, and carry out established plans.
