Job description

Department: Power Systems Division (PSD)

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: San Antonio

The PSD Shop Technician II is responsible for providing high‑quality teardown, inspecting, and repairing industrial engines (natural gas and diesel) in a shop environment, following established procedures and guidelines.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self‑development.

Essential Functions
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Disassembles and assembles engine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling.
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains engines and components.
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management.
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs.
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return.
  • Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps them in good, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • General knowledge of engines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Quality control analysis skills – Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings.
  • Operation and control skills – Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Equipment selection skills – Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair and overhead crane.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands in order to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be self‑starting and self‑motivated.
  • Must have basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard).
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two or more years of experience preferred.

  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
Work Environment
  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water and high-speed rotating equipment.
  • Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting.
  • Exposure to high noise levels and body vibration.
  • Works in confined work spaces, awkward positions, and high places.
  • Works in an enclosed and open vehicle or equipment.
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
