PS Research Nurse

Job Summary

Assists in facilitating the conduct of clinical research byperforming research and clinical duties. Provides patient carewithin the scope of nursing practice and in compliance withguidelines set by governing agencies. Serve as the clinicalchampion for a critical care study, ensuring that the researchprotocol is seamlessly integrated into daily patient care whilemaintaining the highest standards of patient safety, regulatorycompliance, and scientific integrity. Work closely with providers,ICU nurses, advanced practice providers, research staff, and studysponsors to coordinate complex clinical trial(s) involvingcritically ill patients. Actual skills and responsibilities mayvary accordingly.

Responsibilities

1. Assesses and ensures subject safety during trial.
2. Proposes and negotiates alternatives for protocol (whenallowable). Educates staff about the scientific aspects of thestudy, while prioritizing participant safety and high-qualitypatient care.
3. Perform clinical assessments and monitor participants foradverse events and protocol compliance. Applies pharmacologicalknowledge to help PI determine idiosyncrasies and unexpectedresults. Evaluates adverse events (AE), intervenes when necessaryand reports details to PI. Conducts follow-up to determine resolution of AE. Reports serious AEs to IRB and sponsor.
4. Presents related information to the community for recruitmentpurposes or to other research professionals in a variety ofsettings.
5. Mentors and trains new and subordinate employees.
6. Helps determine personnel required to complete the trial anddevelop the timeline for trial completion. Reviews study-relateddata to ensure compliance with the study protocol.
7. Prepares emergency use report.
8. Manages pharmacokinetic collection and storage.
9. Relates lab results to PI and sponsor.
10. Ensures appropriate maintenance and calibration ofequipment.
11. May perform bedside care.

Clinical Trial Leadership

1. Primary clinical coordinator assigned to the ICU trial.
2. Anticipate operational challenges and independently developpractical solutions to maintain study success.
3. Coordinate participant visits, procedures, laboratorycollections, and follow-up, including screening andrecruitment.
4. Maintain accurate source documentation and research records inaccordance with GCP, FDA, HIPAA, and IRB requirements.
5. Develops and maintains all study regulatory requirements andlogs.
6. Assist with IRB submissions.
7. Ensure compliance with institutional policies, sponsorrequirements, and federal regulations.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Daily presence in the ICU and closecollaboration with clinical teams caring for critically illpatients. Office environment.

Often: Infectious disease; oils (including air or skin exposure tooils or other cutting fluids); hazards (including a variety ofphysical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts,moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding andhigh places, or exposure to chemicals).

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge andskills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patientsserved on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrateknowledge of the principles of lifespan growth and development andthe ability to assess patient status data and provide care asdescribed in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

RN license in the state of Utah plus two years related experiencerequired. Depending on area of assignment, CCRP, ACRP-CRC,SOCRA-CCRP certification may be required. Current RQI HealthcareProvider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQIsystem. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. .Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skillsalso required.
