Position Summary

As a Proximity Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful completion of cross bore investigation and excavation projects. Combining GIS technology, field observations, inspection data, and analytical problem-solving, you will evaluate complex inspection results, assess remaining risk, verify work performed, and determine whether projects can be safely closed or require additional investigation. When standard inspection methods cannot fully resolve a location, you will identify the most appropriate path forward, helping ensure public safety while keeping projects moving efficiently.

This is a hybrid role that balances office-based analysis with regular field visits. Success requires strong critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to synthesize mapping data, inspection results, GPS information, and field conditions to identify process improvements. You'll collaborate closely with field crews and leadership while serving as a trusted technical resource throughout the investigation and project closeout process.

Reporting directly to the Field Operations Manager, you will help ensure every project is completed accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Evaluate inspection videos, GPS data, GIS mapping, and field documentation to determine whether locations meet established completion criteria or require additional investigation.
  • Determine whether inspections can be safely cleared by proximity or whether follow-up work, including excavation, potholing, cleanout installation, or other corrective actions, is required.
  • Prepare excavation requests by documenting field conditions, supporting technical decisions with photographs and inspection data, and clearly defining required work for excavation crews.
  • Review daily incomplete or unresolved inspections, identify barriers to completion, and recommend appropriate next steps to leadership.
  • Serve as a technical resource to field crews and operations leadership regarding inspection results, GIS mapping, project documentation, and work completion requirements.
  • Utilize ArcGIS and related mapping systems to review, analyze, and validate field-collected spatial data.
  • Conduct field visits as needed to verify site conditions, validate inspection findings, and support leadership in operational decision-making.
  • Coordinate with excavation personnel, municipalities, and utility representatives regarding permitting requirements, project constraints, and work completion.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reports, and supporting records using Microsoft 365 applications and company systems.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying process improvements that increase safety, efficiency, and data quality.

  • Experience interpreting utility maps, GPS data, engineering drawings, or construction documentation.
  • Familiarity with municipal permitting processes and utility coordination preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with field personnel, leadership, contractors, and municipal representatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to field locations.
