Job summary

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to support daily sterilization operations in the Sterile Processing Services department. You will train in the provisional program and advance into a Sterile Processing Tech role after initial placement.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and CSPDT or CRCST certification, with 40 hours per week and full-time status. Expect exposure to hospital environments and active collaboration with surgical teams.

The Provisional Sterile Processing Academy is for those who have obtained a Provisional CRCST certification, but do not yet have experience in the field. You will receive training in the initial stage, after which you will be slotted into a Sterile Processing Tech position within the market!

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED equivalent.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION :

Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1. 1. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
2. 2. Cleans instruments and equipment using appropriate method and equipment.
3. 3. Ensures the correct inspection of reusable items.
4. 4. Sorting and assembling instruments and/or sets.
5. 5. Operates sterilizing units for production of sterile products to reduce risk of nosocomial infections.
6. 6. Ensures the availability of sterilization supplies and prep solutions.
7. 7. Daily checks autoclaves and Steris Units with biological indicators and air removal test kits as required. Maintains proper logs, records and charts of sterilizers.
8. 8. Maintains technical knowledge.
9. 9. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care as provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS :

Ability to operate equipment, such as sterilization equipment, washer sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner, flash autoclave and high van autoclave Ability to communicate effectively with other medical professionals Knowledge of basic and specialty operating room instrumentation Ability to stand for long periods
