Job summary

Bosch is seeking a hands-on Prototyping Specialist to manufacture prototype components, set up and operate CNC milling equipment, and collaborate with engineers to drive manufacturability improvements.

You will contribute to the prototype shop quality system, develop work instructions, document procedures, and assist with audits and compliance. This role demands precision, problem solving and strong shop-floor discipline.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience in a prototype, machine shop, manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines.
  • Experience with CNC programming software (Mastercam preferred).
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture prototype components for new product development and engineering validation.
  • Program, set up, and operate 3-axis CNC milling equipment to produce precision parts.
  • Perform post-processing, inspections, and quality verification of machined components.
  • Fabricate non-CNC components using manual machining equipment and other fabrication methods.
  • Produce prototype components using FDM and SLA 3D printing technologies, including post-processing.
  • Assemble fabricated components into functional prototype assemblies.
  • Collaborate with engineers to modify designs and improve manufacturability.
  • Suggest improvements to fabrication methods, materials, and designs for quality and efficiency.
  • Estimate project timelines, prioritize work, and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe, organized prototype shop and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for safety, efficiency and cost.

Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on, results-oriented Prototyping Specialist to support our engineering team by manufacturing prototype components, improving fabrication processes, and advancing our prototyping capabilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, working with a variety of manufacturing technologies, and contributing directly to product innovation. You will be supporting the prototype shop quality management system by developing work instructions, maintaining documentation, participating in audits, and ensuring compliance with established procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Manufacture prototype components to support new product development and engineering validation activities.
  • Program, set up, and operate 3-axis CNC milling equipment to produce precision parts.
  • Perform post-processing, inspections, and quality verification of machined components.
  • Fabricate non-CNC components using manual machining equipment (mills and lathes), metal cutting and forming equipment, woodworking tools, welding, brazing, fiberglass layup and other fabrication methods.
  • Produce prototype components using FDM and SLA 3D printing technologies, including post-processing and finishing.
  • Assemble fabricated components into functional prototype assemblies.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to modify designs and develop manufacturable prototype solutions.
  • Recommend improvements to fabrication methods, material selection, and component designs to improve manufacturability, quality, and build efficiency.
  • Estimate project timelines, prioritize work, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient prototype shop environment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine calibration of CNC equipment and shop tools.
  • Monitor inventory levels of materials, tooling, and shop supplies and coordinate replenishment as needed.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
Advanced Responsibilities (Highly Qualified Candidates)
  • Evaluate and implement advanced CNC programming strategies, tooling, and machining technologies.
  • Research and assess emerging additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and fabrication methods.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in a prototype, machine shop, manufacturing, or fabrication environment.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines.
  • Experience with CNC programming software (Mastercam preferred).
  • Experience operating manual machine tools, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Experience producing high-quality prototype or low-volume production components.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds and work in a manufacturing/shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing technologies, including FDM and SLA printing.
  • Experience with welding, brazing, fiberglass fabrication, or composite manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is between the range of $72,000- $78,000; individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc. This range does not include annual bonus percentage nor any other monetary considerations for the total compensation package.
