Job summary

Timken in Canton, OH is seeking a Prototype Technician to support the prototype department, enabling production of parts and services aligned with department goals.

You'll perform machine setup and grinding operations, use inspection equipment, and follow process instructions while collaborating with a team to meet delivery targets and support training. A mechanical trade background with related training is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and at least 5 years in a mechanical trade, or an associate degree with at least 3 years in a mechanical trade.
  • Apprenticeship or other technical training in a mechanical trade is preferred.
  • Experience with precision grinding and inspection equipment is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Perform machine set ups and operations in product grind or prototype operations.
  • Set up and operate grinding machines (surface, ID, OD, centerless, super finishing).
  • Use inspection tools to complete in-process inspections.
  • Follow work instructions and process control plans.
  • Work as part of a team to meet on-time delivery and assist training of associates.
  • Participate in quality systems, calibration, and audits.

This position exists to support direct and indirect functions and activities in the prototype department to permit the production of products and services to achieve department and company goals.

As a Prototype technician you will :

  • Perform machine set ups and operations in the following areas: Product Grind or Prototype operations.
  • Perform set up and operation of various grinding machines examples, surface, ID, OD, centerless and super finishing.
  • Use a variety of inspection equipment and hand tools to complete in process inspections.
  • Knowledge of computers required.
  • Ability to follow work instructions, process control plans.
  • Work as a member of a team under supervision of leadership to meet on-time delivery goals and to provide necessary assistance to meet customer demands. Assist in training associates on applicable processes, tasks and operations.
  • Participate in current quality systems, calibration, and audits.

Other Skills Preferred:

  • CMM and CNC experience
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Good Organizational Skills
  • Basic computer skills and some knowledge of office packages (word, excel, and powerpoint)
  • High School Diploma and at least 5 year's of experience in a mechanical trade or associate degree with at least 3 year’s of experience in a mechanical trade
  • Apprenticeship or other technical training program in mechanical trade preferred
