Job summary

DoorDash Labs, an independent team within DoorDash, is seeking a master-level Prototype Machinist & Fabrication Specialist in San Francisco to transform complex designs into high-precision hardware. You will operate 5-axis CNC machines, oversee 3D printing fleets, and design custom tooling for advanced robotic prototypes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in a high-precision machine shop, R&D lab, or prototype environment.
• Mastery of 5-axis CNC programming and operation, CNC lathes, and manual machining equipment.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, CMM).
• Hands-on experience with professional-grade 3D printing platforms (Formlabs, Markforged, Carbon).
• CAD/CAM proficiency for toolpath generation and model navigation.

Responsibilities

• Operate and program 5-axis CNC machines, lathes, and manual mills to produce high-tolerance prototype components.
• Oversee post-processing and maintenance of 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLS, SLA).
• Design and fabricate custom jigs, fixtures, and tooling for complex assemblies and testing.
• Interpret drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to ensure builds meet specs.
• Provide feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM) to optimize part production.
• Perform preventative maintenance on shop machinery and equipment.
• Manage machinist consumables inventory (tools, inserts, coolants, resins, filaments).
• Support assembly, wiring, and mechanical troubleshooting of robotic platforms and test fixtures.
• Maintain a clean, OSHA-compliant shop environment and lead EH&S efforts.
