Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Corning, NY is seeking a skilled Machinist to join the Sullivan Park Research & Development team on the 2nd shift. This role involves fabricating prototype parts and equipment to support cutting-edge technology development in a highly innovative environment.

You will set up and operate CNC and manual machines, read blueprints, write and edit programs, inspect parts with precision instruments, and troubleshoot production issues.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; multiple pathways listed.
• Choose one of: 4 years machine shop experience or military equivalent.
• Or a Journeyman / Class A status.
• Or a 2-year Machine Tool Technology degree or a certificate with 1+ year experience.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble prototype parts for research and development projects.
• Set up and operate CNC and manual machines (CNC lathes, 3–5 axis mills, wire EDM, grinders, drills).
• Write and modify machine programs to meet specs.
• Read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Inspect finished parts with precision measuring tools.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and perform routine maintenance.
• Collaborate with design teams to bring new technology to life.

Location: Corning, NY

Schedule: Full-Time | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Pay: Starting at $38.09/hour, with top rate of $40.65/hour

What You’ll Do

• Fabricate and assemble prototype parts and equipment for research and development projects.
• Set up and operate a variety of CNC and manual machines, including:
• CNC Lathes.
• 3-axis and 5-axis CNC Mills.
• Wire EDM.
• Surface Grinders.
• Drill Presses.
• Manual Lathes.
• Manual Mills.
• Straight Vertical Milling Machines.
• Write, edit, and modify machine programs to meet design specifications and quality standards.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment.
• Troubleshoot machining and process issues.
• Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment.
• Work closely with designs, ideas, and prototype concepts to bring new technology to life.
  
  

Required

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One of the following:
• 4 years of applicable machine shop experience or military equivalent.
• Journeyman or Class “A” status.
• 2-year Machine Tool Technology degree.
• Certificate in a relevant field with at least 1 year of experience.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem-solving ability.
  
  

Preferred

• Experience with Mastercam, SolidWorks, or NC programming software.
• 5-axis machining experience.
• Experience with Haas, Mazak, Fanuc, or similar controls.
  
  

If you have strong machining fundamentals but do not have 5-axis or programming experience, we still encourage you to apply. We are willing to train the right candidate.

Additional Job Information

• 720 hour working probationary period.

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting pay: $38.09/hour.
• Top pay: $40.65/hour.
