Jefferson Lab, managed by SURATech, LLC, seeks a Protocol Office Intern to support planning and execution of events, VIP visits, and tours on-site in Newport News, VA.

You will work with a dynamic team across public affairs, hospitality, and operations; responsibilities include maintaining the calendar, coordinating logistics, preparing itineraries, and delivering welcoming service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Public Affairs, Hospitality, or a related field.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: GPA 2.5 or above.
  • Ability to lift and move event materials.
  • Basic mastery of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lab-wide strategic calendar of priority events, conferences, and VIP visits.
  • Support event logistics including room setup, material preparation, and vendor coordination.
  • Coordinate with Tour Coordinator to prepare itineraries, materials, and logistics for visiting dignitaries and stakeholders.
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external attendees, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Support administrative tasks such as data entry, scheduling, and file organization.

Job description

Jefferson Lab is seeking a Protocol Office Intern to support the planning, coordination, and execution of laboratory events, conferences, VIP visits, and tours. This role is ideal for a local college student who is available to work on‑site in Newport News, Va (minimum 15 hours per week up to 40 hours per week year‑round) and is interested in event management, public affairs, communications, hospitality, or organizational operations. The intern will gain hands‑on experience working with a dynamic team responsible for high‑visibility engagements across the lab.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with maintaining the lab‑wide strategic calendar of priority events, conferences, and VIP visits.
  • Support event logistics including room setup, material preparation, and vendor coordination.
  • Coordinate with the Tour Coordinator to prepare itineraries, materials, and logistics for visiting dignitaries, scientific delegations, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external attendees, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Support administrative tasks such as data entry, scheduling, and file organization.
Qualifications
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Required: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Public Affairs, Hospitality, or a related field.
  • Preferred: 2 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: Current overall GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and take direction from multiple staff members.
  • Ability to lift and move event materials such as signs, packets, and supplies as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills.
  • Basic mastery of Microsoft Office software.
Compensation

Good‑faith pay range: $37,700 – $44,500 year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as candidate skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.
