Job summary

Riverside Health seeks a Protection Officer I in Onancock, VA to protect facilities and personnel from losses and criminal activity. You will monitor alarms, perform patrols, and provide assistance to employees, patients, and visitors.

  • Escort staff, visitors, and patients; assist with transportation and visitor credentialing.
  • Direct people and guide them to entrances/parking; assist with badging and policy compliance.
  • Patrol campus interior and exterior; write incident reports and maintain equipment.
  • Keep logs and input service requests in WorxHub and Omnigo; complete training modules.
  • Prepare written incident reports with clear details for quality monitoring.

Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Overview

The Protection Officer I works under the direction of the Protection Supervisor & Manager. The Officer performs functions to protect facilities and personnel from property loss and criminal activity. Provides services and assistance, as outlined by policies and procedures and directed by Management, to make the facility safe for employees, patients and visitors and to meet the expectations of Riverside Health.

What you will do
  • Monitor fire, intrusion, duress, and security alarm systems and respond as appropriate.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the infant security alarms (TOTs), Genetic access and video systems, WorxHub, and Omnigo. Function in emergency circumstances as directed. Operate communications equipment in keeping with assigned duties.
  • Maintain positive public relations with the community. Escort employees, visitors, and patients as requested. Assist with transportation and lifting of patients as requested. Assist with visitor management credentialing, provide contraband searching/wanding.
  • Direct and assist patients, visitors, employees, contractors, and other members of the public to the appropriate parking areas. Direct persons to the appropriate entrance of the facility. Assist with employee, contractors, and visitor badging and ensure all persons are in compliance with established policies.
  • Patrol interior and exterior of the campus to prevent and detect criminal activity. Write traffic warnings and incident reports. Ensure appropriate equipment is in assigned vehicle, and maintain performance of protection vehicles to include cleaning, fluid levels and engine maintenance.
  • Maintain logs, input work orders into WorxHub, input calls for service in Omnigo, SOPs, complete training modules, fire extinguishers, radios, Genetic, infant security alarms (TOTs), emergency blue lights, WorxHub and equipment.
  • Keep files, SOPs and Omnigo calls for service system current. Make written reports of incidents or unusual circumstances with which confronted with while on duty, including safety and fire hazards. Provide appropriate and detailed information in reports about incidents or concerns for quality monitoring through rCare and pass downs.
  • Safety Practices - Bring to the attention of the OIC/Supervisor any accidents, injuries, safety matters, or protection problems. Complete computer based training and other employee training modules necessary for position to remain up to date on safety issues, procedures and processes. Identify opportunities for service improvement and participate in process improvement and departmental in-services. Responsible for ensuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals and in accordance with RHS policies and procedures. Demonstrate the ability to keep work area neat, clean and in compliance with RHS, NFPA, ISO, DNV and State safety standards.

Job functions related to vehicle operation/maintenance are only applicable to facilities where RHS vehicles are used. A Valid Driver's License is not required for locations that do not operate vehicles in the performance of job duties (i.e. Doctors', Shore Memorial, & Smithfield Hospital)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Crisis Prevention (CPI) - The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within 90 Days (Required)
  • Control Tactics - A To Z Training Solutions within 1 Year(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days (Required) and
  • Certified Auto External Defibrillator (AED) - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) If CPR is not BLS certification, AED is also required within 90 Days (Required)

  • Prior experience with security in a health care or other setting (Preferred)

  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish assignments with accuracy and timeliness (work assignments completed by deadlines, receive minimal customer complaints)

  • Ability to communicate reliably and accurately with all members of the team
