Job description

The experienced Lead Engineer in Protection and Control design. Develop and applies engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex and unique engineering problems. A person in this role is recognized as a key internal reference point for technical guidance through depth and breadth of knowledge and may be required to provide technical guidance over a group of colleagues, CAD, and administrative staff on projects of medium to high complexity. This role is also responsible for developing, validating, and presenting technical output and may provide leadership for development of deliverables to clients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Remains current and applies independent knowledge on client's design guides and standards.
  • Provides guidance and direction on departmental standards, policies and procedures.
  • Provides clarity on or interprets standards based on experience and helps others understand the industry, client and company's standards. Assists with updating company standards.
  • Applies and integrates Owner QA programs with Commonwealth program.
  • Ensures compliance with company quality program through individual and team related tasks or deliverables.
  • Establishes related processes, and promotes a culture that is conducive to quality.
  • Independently applies knowledge of Commonwealth Associates quality program and consistently demonstrates compliance with quality standards.
  • Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts by proactively presenting leadership with new suggestions around process and practices innovation and participating in the implementation.
  • Attends and frequently leads internal and external client meetings, communications, conference calls and client site visits.
  • Have understanding of project communication responsibilities and duties and how these internal and external communications affect client relations.
  • Identifies and communicates client interests and drivers to project team and develops approaches to meet these interests and drivers throughout the work on projects.
  • Identify and recommend other Commonwealth offered services.
  • Support Business Development by providing technical information for sales proposals, or by pursuing other related activates as assigned by department managers.

Communicates directly with all internal and external team members to identify and coordinate details of work on multifaceted projects.

  • Coordinates and communicates project schedules, tasks and proper sequencing of tasks with internal staff across disciplines, project managers and clients.
  • Coordinates all technical aspects of projects and makes project engineering execution decisions within the bounds set by applicable policies, standards, guides and contract commitments.
  • Establishes work plans to be applied to a project.
  • Independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods.
  • Manages engineering design-related aspects of a multi-discipline project or multiple small to medium projects, including engineering schedule and budget performance, quality of engineering solutions and deliverables, coordination or design, procurement, and construction.
  • Oversees and participates in the collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work.
  • Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.

Performs studies required for independent data gathering, new procedures or recommendation solutions when several are adequate.

  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications and studies with limited supervision for moderately complex or multiple projects.
  • May be involved in implementing and influencing the resourcing strategy.
  • Assists with contract administration or project management administrative duties in connection with project work as needed.

Completes expense reports and timesheets in a timely and accurate manner and seeks direction from supervisor when conflicts arise.

Assists in the development and production of project scope of work packages (scope, schedule & budget) for assigned discipline.

  • Evaluates and influences decisions surrounding costs, productivity, or competitiveness within a department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
  • PE licensure required
  • 10-15 years of related P&C experience
  • Designing and overseeing technical aspects of projects and providing guidance and mentorship to pro.
