Job summary

The Taurus Industrial Group seeks a Protection & Control Technician to install, test, commission, maintain, and repair protection and control systems for electrical substations, power generation facilities, and industrial sites. You will troubleshoot relay protection schemes, calibrate relays, and document results while upholding safety standards and customer service in a dynamic field environment.

3+ years of experience and a technical electrical background are required; IEEE/NERC/ANSI

• Ability to work safely in high-voltage environments and follow safety procedures.

About the Role:

The P&C Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of protection and control systems associated with electrical substations, power generation facilities, and industrial electrical systems. This position supports safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure through the application of technical expertise in protective relays, control circuits, metering systems, and associated electrical equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of relay protection schemes, electrical testing procedures, and substation control systems while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a technical training program in electrical or electronic technology is required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with electrical protection and control systems in a utility or industrial environment.
• Proficient understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay logic.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE, NERC, and ANSI related to protection and control.
• Ability to work safely in high-voltage environments and follow established safety procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of protective relay systems including SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens, Basler, or similar manufacturers.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, substation operations, AC/DC control systems, and relay protection schemes.
• Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, logic drawings, and technical manuals.
• Proficient in the use of electrical testing equipment such as Omicron, Doble, Megger, multimeters, and relay test sets.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform relay testing, calibration, commissioning, and functional verification activities.
• Working knowledge of applicable safety standards including OSHA and NFPA 70E.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and effectively within a team environment.
• Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems, RTUs, PLCs, and communication systems preferred.
• NETA testing experience or certification preferred

Essential Functions:

• Install, test, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair protection and control systems.
• Perform testing and calibration of protective relays, transformers, circuit breakers, meters, and associated electrical equipment.
• Conduct wiring verification, point-to-point checks, and control circuit testing.
• Perform functional testing of transmission, distribution, transformer, and generator protection schemes.
• Assist with startup, commissioning, and system energization activities.
• Accurately document testing results, calibration reports, field changes, and commissioning activities.
• Maintain compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, operations personnel, and customers regarding technical issues and project progress.
• Maintain tools, testing equipment, company vehicles, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
• Participate in outage support, emergency response, and after-hours work activities as required.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods
• Frequently lift 5-25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in industrial and outdoor environments.
• Ability to work around energized electrical equipment while following all applicable safety procedures.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to:
  • Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, face shield
  • Respiratory protection (including full-face mask)
  • Fall protection harness
• Specialized protective suits (e.g., chemical/acid suits)

Work Environment:

This position operates in industrial field environments and may involve exposure to:
