Job summary

SynchroGrid in Texas seeks a Protection & Control Design Engineer to lead protection, control, and physical design for utility substations, ranging from new builds to brownfield upgrades.

You will design one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs, collaborating with engineers and clients to meet specifications, schedules, and budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited school.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and control design.

Responsibilities

• Design and QC protection, control and physical design drawings for substations (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOM).
• Design physical layout drawings (electrical plans, grounding, conduit layouts, BOM calculations).
• Interface with Principal Engineers, Project Engineers, Designers, Draftsmen and clients.
• Lead project aspects, meet specifications, control costs and schedules, participate in site evaluations.

About the Role

We are seeking a Protection & Control Design Engineer who will be primarily responsible for a wide variety of transmission, generation and distribution projects involving protection and control and physical design drawings. These include protection and control and physical design projects that range from new substations to brownfield installations. This position will be responsible for working independently as well as within a team to complete all projects.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the design and quality control of system protection and control projects for utility substations. This includes one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bill of material, etc.
• Be responsible for the design and quality control of physical design projects for utility substations. This includes electrical plans and profiles, grounding plans and details, conduit and raceway layouts/details/schedules, Bills of Material, and calculations such as voltage drop, conduit fill, breaker sizing, etc.
• Interface with internal and external team members, such as Principal Engineers, Project Engineers, Electrical Designers, Physical Designers, Draftsmen, Project Managers, outside contractors, and support organizations.
• Work with a team to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives.
• Interact with clients and take a leadership role in assigned aspects of the projects.
• Be involved with project site evaluations and preparing engineering scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering school.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience required.

Required Skills

• Ability to recognize relay one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
