Job summary

Maricopa County Attorney’s Office seeks a dynamic prosecutor to review and prepare cases for Grand Jury presentations in a high-volume criminal environment. A Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school is required, with three years of criminal-law experience or six years in any other area; must be admitted to the Arizona Bar by hire time.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the State before the Grand Jury.
  • Review and prepare cases for presentation to the Grand Jury.
  • Work with and prepare law enforcement witnesses for testimony in front of a Grand Jury.
  • Answer legal questions asked by Grand Jurors.
  • Assist with reviewing cases to make charging decisions and comply with all rules regulating professional responsibility.
  • Cover court and other duties as assigned.

We Require
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited and American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school
  • Three years of experience as an attorney practicing criminal law or six years of experience as an attorney practicing in any other area
Other Requirements
  • Must be admitted to practice law and be in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona by the time of hire
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire
  • May require overtime availability to respond to after-hour inquiries

Working Conditions
  • Courtroom setting in a high volume, fast-paced environment with frequent stressful situations. May require extended periods of sitting while completing paperwork, standing, and moving about while performing duties

  • Grand Jury presentations are conducted in person but there is an opportunity for some teleworking after the first year of employment
