Job summary

Lumicity is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineer to own the full lifecycle of turbomachinery, from design to prototype, analysis and validation, in an Orange County, CA setting.

You will perform hand calculations and numerical analyses (FEA, thermal, structural, fatigue, vibration) and develop CAD models and drawings for rotating engine components, working with manufacturing on tests and assemblies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field is required.
• 4+ years' experience in high-speed rotating machinery design, preferably turbines, engines, propulsion and combustion systems.
• Extensive knowledge of FEA, thermal, structural, fatigue and vibration analysis; knowledge of ANSYS.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, Fusion360.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the full lifecycle of turbomachinery from design to prototype, analysis, testing and validation.
• Conduct hand calculations, FEA, thermal, structural, fatigue and vibration analyses to validate designs.
• Produce detailed CAD models, engineering drawings and assembly documentation.
• Support testing of designs and prototypes, closely collaborating with manufacturing.

The Client:

Lumicity has partnered with an early-stage, growing Defense & Aerospace company based in Orange County, California on their search for a Propulsion Design Engineer to join their team. This client is in the early stages of their development and is seeking a hands‑on engineer who can take ownership of the full lifecycle of gas turbines and, more specifically, their engines.

The Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the full lifecycle of turbomachinery (turbines, turbine engines, jet engines, high-speed rotating machinery etc) from design to prototype, analysis, testing, and through to validation.
• Carry out hand calculations, FEA, thermal, structural, fatigue and vibration analysis to validate the designs
• Produce detailed CAD models, engineering drawings and assembly documentation
• Support the testing of the design and prototypes, working extremely closely with the manufacturing team
• Produce 3D drawings and entire rotating assemblies for engines and their components

The Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
• 4+ years' experience within high-speed rotating machinery design, preferably turbines, engines, propulsion and combustion systems
• Extensive knowledge of FEA, thermal, structural, fatigue and vibration analysis, with knowledge of ANSYS
• Proficient in a variety of CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, Fusion360 etc)
• Previous experience working within a startup environment is highly advantageous
