Job summary

E Tech Group, a leading engineering and system integration firm, seeks a Proposal and Estimating Engineer to drive proposal development for industrial automation across multiple industries. You will review RFPs, meet customers to refine scope, and develop estimates for labor, material, and travel, collaborating with engineers and project managers to standardize processes.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Engineering and 5+ years in industrial automation, with strong Excel and ERP costing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of Industrial Automation experience related to design, controls, programming, and electrical engineering.
• Extensive experience using company methods, tools, and processes for estimating and proposal management.
• Extensive Excel / Spreadsheet experience.
• Understanding of ERP / Project Costing Systems and parametric estimation tools.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and RFQ/RFP documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare work to be estimated by reviewing RFPs, drawings, specs, and related documents.
• Meet with customers to review the technical scope and engineering requirements.
• Develop estimates by identifying labor, material, travel, and time requirements.
• Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
• Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
• Work closely with engineers and project managers to refine estimates.
• Present prepared estimates by assembling numerical and descriptive information.
• Create proposal documents by entering scope, deliverables, schedule, risk, and clarifications into templates.
• Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Maintain cost database by entering and backing up data.
• Maintain technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing technical publications.
• Work remotely within EST and travel.

We are seeking an Proposal and Estimating Engineer to be responsible for proposal and estimate development for industrial automation solutions in the Consumer Products, Food and Beverage, Life Sciences, and Material Handling industries. Our projects span the range from simple PLC upgrades through full automation solutions featuring Allen Bradley, Siemens, AVEVA, Ignition, and custom software solutions. You will also work with the Business Development Management team and others to improve methods, tools, and processes to standardize (or systematize) and improve proposal and estimating development for the entire business unit.

You will:

• Prepare work to be estimated by reviewing requests for proposals (RFP), engineering drawings, specifications, and related documents.
• Meet with customers to review the technical scope and engineering requirements.
• Develop estimates by identifying labor, material, travel expenses, and time requirements by studying RFPs, engineering drawings, specifications, and related documents.
• Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
• Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
• Work closely with E Tech engineers and project managers to refine estimates
• Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
• Create proposal document by entering scope, deliverable, schedule, risk, and clarification information from the estimate into existing proposal template.
• Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Maintain cost database by entering and backing up data.
• Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications.
• Work remotely within EST and travel

You have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of Industrial Automation experience directly related to design, controls, programming, and electrical engineering
• Extensive experience using Company methods, tools, and processes specific to estimating and proposal management standards.
• Extensive Excel / Spreadsheet Experience
• MS Project Experience is a plus
• Understanding of ERP / Project Costing Systems and parametric estimation tools.
• Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings, specifications, technical documentation as well as RFP/RFQ documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
