Job summary

Aviva U.S. is hiring an AVP, Property Underwriting to lead a disciplined Property portfolio, guide underwriting strategy, and drive profitable growth. You will develop talent, oversee referrals, and collaborate with product, actuarial, claims, and distribution teams to achieve strategic objectives.

You will also build strong broker relationships, lead business development initiatives, and ensure governance and risk controls across the portfolio.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of commercial or specialty insurance underwriting experience, including managing complex Property portfolios.
• Proven experience underwriting complex middle-market and large commercial Property risks.
• Prior leadership experience in coaching, mentoring, or people management.
• Strong understanding of portfolio management, pricing, risk assessment, and underwriting operations.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
• Ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels and functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting strategy, execution, and financial performance for an assigned Property portfolio.
• Establish objectives and monitor performance against targets; adjust with market conditions.
• Evaluate and approve complex underwriting decisions within delegated authority.
• Lead portfolio reviews to improve profitability, growth, and risk selection.
• Coach and develop underwriting professionals; manage talent and succession planning.
• Build and maintain broker, client, and distribution relationships.
• Ensure governance, guidelines, and risk appetite are consistently applied.
