Responsibilities

• Perform general repair and maintenance on City buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities.
• Construct, remodel, install walls, and paint.
• Carry out carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry tasks as needed.
• Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing and edging.
• Operate department equipment and tools used in projects.
• Conduct monthly and quarterly safety inspections and prepare safety reports.
• Provide daily supervision of inmate trustee workers on and off department property.

JOB SUMMARY

SCOPE AND EFFECT

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance duties. Successful performance helps ensure safe and well-maintained facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee must lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and be able to distinguish between shades of color.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position reports directly to a Sergeant or Lieutenant.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

Supervision and control over inmate trustee workers on and off department property.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for 1-2 years
• Possession oforability toreadily obtain a valid Driver's License issued bytheStateof Tennessee for the type of vehicle or equipmentoperated
