Job summary

Montana Department of Revenue is seeking a Property Appraiser 1 to conduct residential property reviews, field inspections, and data analysis to determine final valuations. You will support appeals and provide clear explanations of appraisal activities, with emphasis on accuracy and adherence to appraisal standards.

Responsibilities include reviewing tax records, researching land use and property characteristics, and performing sales comparisons and cost/market analyses.

Qualifications

  • Two years of post-secondary education in business, accounting, economics, public administration, construction technology or training.
  • One year of job-related experience.
  • Requires Montana certification in residential property appraisal (IAAO 101) and USPAP within the first year.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct residential property reviews and discoveries to identify appraisal needs and priorities.
  • Review tax records, land use, improvements, valuation documents, and other information.
  • Identify properties for appraisal review and conduct field appraisals and site inspections.
  • Analyze and determine final property value using appropriate methods.
  • Research and analyze individual property characteristics to estimate impact on values.
  • Prepare documentation of professional assumptions and limiting conditions.
