Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Orlando, FL is seeking a Propellant Chemist to own end-to-end creation of new propellant chemistries for SRM products. You will work across ballistics, energetics, and production teams to translate performance requirements into reliable, manufacturable hardware.

The role involves defining formulations, coordinating with production partners, and executing comprehensive test plans for material characterization. Travel >50% is expected in this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent accredited degree) with at least 1 year of experience in solid rocket motor propellants.
  • Experience with Solid Rocket Motor propellants and materials characterization.
  • Familiarity with IPT (Integrated Product Team) environments.
  • Experience with manufacturing execution systems, work-instruction management, and change control documentation.
  • Ability to read technical data sheets and drawings; collaboration with multi-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define and refine new propellant formulations.
  • Collaborate with the ballistics team for performance predictions and validation against system requirements.
  • Collaborate with Troy Energetics Lab to develop, review, and execute test plans for material characterization.
  • Present status updates at internal briefings and customer program reviews.
  • Coordinate interface development with production manufacturers to guide, scale and oversee propellant production procedures.
  • Perform trade studies, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses to mitigate technical risk.
