Job summary

Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts seeks a Prop Supervisor to lead prop planning, creation, acquisition, modification, and management for productions on campus. You will work closely with designers, directors, faculty, and students to meet artistic, functional, historical, and budgetary needs.

Qualifications

• A minimum of one year hands-on experience in theatrical production or related field.
• Experience constructing, modifying, sourcing props and/or scenery using various materials and tools.
• Experience collaborating with designers, directors, production teams and student crews; budgeting and inventory experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Research and build/alter props, furniture, and set dressing to meet artistic and budgetary needs.
• Collaborate with designers, directors, faculty, and staff to develop practical prop solutions.
• Attend production meetings and rehearsals to coordinate prop requirements.
• Manage budgets for productions and prop shop supplies and track expenditures.
• Teach safe working practices to students and supervise prop construction.
• Organize and maintain the prop shop inventory and coordinate rentals and borrowing.
• Work weekends/evenings as needed for tech rehearsals and strikes.
• Occasional travel to purchase props and materials.
