Main Purpose of Job

The Projections Analyst supports the Labor Market Information (LMI) Team in developing employment projections by industry and occupation for Maryland and its local areas. • Provide support for economic analyses and special projects: leverage data expertise to respond to ongoing and ad hoc research requests, develop custom industry clusters, and produce monthly reports on Maryland’s economy.
  • Support LAUS and CES programs: assist with data collection and analysis, assist with calculation of annual Areas of Substantial Unemployment (ASUs), and support benchmarking and model review processes with US Department of Labor staff.
  • Assist the BLS Programs Administrator with data quality checks for BLS programs (QCEW, OEWS, CES, and LAUS), identify outliers and sudden shifts, review data for accuracy prior to release, and conduct key dataset analysis.

  • Experience: four years of administrative staff or professional work. Substitute qualifications: 30 college credit hours for each year of experience up to four years; a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree; or U.S. Armed Forces commissioned officer experience involving staff work related to administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures, and processes.
