Welcome to NextWork, the company changing the way the world learns.

More than 220,000 people across 190 countries use NextWork to learn AI by building. They work with the newest tools, create projects that prove what they can do and build a portfolio as they learn.

As our first dedicated Project Writer, you’ll own the experience at the heart of NextWork: the projects people use to learn.

Your job is to uphold a learning experience that’s technically accurate, easy to follow, exciting to complete, and rewarding to showcase. The standard is simple - every learner should finish every project thinking, “That was the best possible way I could have learned that skill.”

We’re a close-knit team in Austin that values collaboration, transparency and low ego. You’ll work across writing, product and engineering to set the standard for what a great project looks like, then help our AI project generator meet that standard at scale.

What you’ll do
  • Write incredible hands-on projects that help learners build with AI tools.
  • Research new tools, models and workflows, build with them yourself, then work out the clearest way to teach them.
  • Own every part of the project experience, including the project instructions, explanations, screenshots, diagrams, code blocks, quizzes, tasks and troubleshooting help.
  • Test every project vigorously from start to finish. Find the broken commands, missing context and confusing moments before a learner does.
  • Own the prompts, examples and evaluations that shape the quality of our AI project generator.
  • Study where learners stop, struggle or lose momentum. Work directly with product and engineering to remove those dropoff points.
  • Keep projects up to date as models are deprecated, interfaces change and tools update. Your projects must remain trustworthy in a field that evolves every day.
  • Record project walkthroughs and become a visible part of the NextWork learner community.
  • Check out our Project Writer's challenge for a feel of what the role will be about! https://app.notion.com/p/itsnextwork/Project-Writer-Challenge-Brief-ca0050a555fa824c93a581a3b3a22fc0?source=copy_link
  • Are a great writer. You can make a difficult technical idea feel clear without making it shallow.
  • Care deeply about how people learn, not just whether the information is technically correct.
  • Love learning new technical things yourself and believe that almost anything can be taught with the right guide.
  • Follow AI closely because you’re excited by what people can now build, not just because keeping up with trends is part of your job.
  • Use AI tools naturally in your writing and research workflow without outsourcing your judgment to them.
  • Notice the fine details that change a learning experience… like a screenshot in the wrong place, an unexplained command, a misleading diagram, a long paragraph that interrupts the flow of the project.
  • Are comfortable moving between writing, research, testing, product thinking and technical problem-solving.
  • Want to set the standard for how NextWork teaches, then build the systems that help the rest of the platform reach that standard.
  • Are comfortable on camera and excited to speak directly with learners.
  • Have strong opinions, hold them lightly and move fast when the facts change.
This might not be for you if you...
  • Want to work remotely. The team works in person in Austin, 5-6 days a week.
  • Think technical writing starts after someone else has already worked out how to use the tool, the structure and the answer.
  • Want to release projects built from technical docs, articles, or a subject-matter expert’s post without building or testing the project yourself.
  • Measure success by how much content gets published rather than what learners become capable of doing.
  • Aren’t comfortable debugging technical problems or working closely with engineers.
  • See AI as a shortcut to produce more words, rather than a tool that still requires taste, accuracy and judgment.
  • Don’t actively experiment with new AI tools or follow where the field is heading.
  • Only want to do one part of the job - just writing, just strategy or just research.
  • Aren’t comfortable filming project walkthroughs.
  • Don’t want to spend hours every week talking with our learners, and learning how they learn.
  • Want a calm, predictable role where the pace, tools and subject matter rarely change.
What we value in project writing

Project writing at NextWork is part technical writing, part teaching and part product design.

A project is not an article with instructions added to it. It is a designed experience that takes someone through uncertainty, gives them the right information at the right moment and leaves them with a skill they can prove. We believe that a great learning journey is like a hero’s journey - every learner should come out of a NextWork feeling like a hero.

Project writers at NextWork:

  • Build before they teach. You cannot guide someone through confusion you have not experienced yourself.
  • Write for the learner. Assume intelligence, not prior knowledge. Explain what matters at the moment it becomes useful.
  • Protect the flow. Every paragraph, screenshot and interaction should help the learner move forward. If it interrupts the flow without improving understanding, it should not be there.
  • Design the whole experience. Writing, code blocks, diagrams, tasks, video and quizzes are all different parts of the same experience.
  • Treat accuracy as a product requirement. A deprecated model, incorrect command or outdated screenshot can end the project for a learner.
  • Use AI as leverage, not a substitute for judgment. Our AI project generator can create a draft. Your taste determines whether it becomes a great learning experience.
  • Fix systems, not only projects. When you see the same problem appears repeatedly, improve the prompt, evaluation, tool or product so it stops happening.
  • Shape a portfolio, not a content calendar. What learners build should help them develop and show skills that matter, not a collection of projects built around hyped tools.
